Ian Raven, Executive Director
The Elgin Military Museum
Ian Raven has been associated with the Elgin Military Museum for
twenty six years; ten years on the Board including as Chair and
more recently, sixteen years as Executive Director. Ian is well
known for the depth of his knowledge across a wide range of
subjects in addition to his expertise in military history. A
certified Fire Arms Expert, he has been called as an expert witness
on several occasions. Service to the community of St. Thomas and
Elgin County has been an important factor in his life and he is
currently Chairman, Elgin Oxford Legal Clinic; Chairman, Canadian
Mental Health Association Elgin County; Vice Chairman, Elgin Oxford
Norfolk Association of Curators and Directors and he served as
Co-Chair, Telecommunications Committee, 2010 International Plowing
Match which was held in St. Thomas in September 2010. His past
service includes twenty years (1983-2003) as a Board Member of St.
John Ambulance in various positions including two terms as Chair.
He is an Officer of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and received
their Long Service Award in 2001. Ian also served as a Board Member
of the Port Stanley Community Policing Committee (1996-2003). Mr.
Raven is a native of St. Thomas, Ontario.
