Volunteers
Bring your sense of humour and join the Volunteer Team at the
Elgin Military Museum. This new team will become the best around
because volunteers bring great skills they are willing to share and
because we will train them to do a wide variety of tasks. You may
be surprised how quickly having an armoured personnel carrier in
the parking lot, a merry go round horse called Hannibal in the
window and a submarine down the road become quite normal!
And, don't forget the elephant up the street! For those in
the job market, or looking for work, we want employers to know that
you have met the high standards that make our museum one of the
best when they see volunteering at the Elgin Military Museum noted
on your resume.
Heard the Rumours?
Heard rumours about bad volunteer experiences? Think you might
be taken advantage of/or your task is too big/too hard/too boring?
At the Elgin Military Museum, we have heard them too. In
fact, because all of us are volunteers at the museum and elsewhere,
we know where the pitfalls are and we try very hard to avoid all of
the above. Let's face it, not all tasks are glamorous - they are
however, important and with a little ingenuity we can make them
fun. Think of the veterans - the men and women - who started this
museum. They were the ultimate volunteers - they put their lives on
hold and on the line all over the world. Those who returned
organized this museum to recognize this generosity of spirit and to
acknowledge that working together we can help to make our community
a more caring and understanding place.
Passing the Torch
Most of the founders of the Elgin Military Museum are gone now.
They have passed the torch to all of us to help carry on that
commitment to our community and our country. This museum is about
war and conflict but so much more. It is about how people
communicate or don't; how technology developed in troubled times is
used in other ways; it is about parts of the world we may never
have heard of; it is about understanding how conflict develops so
we can make better choices; and it is about lives lived and taken
away. Mostly, it is about ordinary people, honouring other ordinary
people who were called upon to meet extraordinary challenges.
Can you meet the challenge? Yes - you can!
It's early days for many of the volunteering jobs so let us know
about the skills you can bring to the project. Hot items will
include technical skills and office skills. Please click here for the
